ASTM A240 316L stainless steel, also known as ultra-low carbon stainless steel, is a versatile stainless steel material, which is widely used to produce equipment and components requiring good comprehensive properties (corrosion resistance and formability). ASTM A240 316L stainless steel is a variant of ASTM A240 316L stainless steel with low carbon content and is used for welding occasions. Lower carbon content minimizes the amount of carbides precipitated in the heat affected zone near the weld, and the precipitation of carbides may lead to intergranular corrosion (welding corrosion) of stainless steel in some environments.

After welding or stress removal, the corrosion resistance of ASTM A240 316L stainless steel is particularly strong. Without heat treatment, ASTM A240 316L stainless steel still has corrosion resistance, and is mostly used below 400℃. ASTM A240 316L stainless steel usually used in manufacturing chemical, coal, petroleum industry equipment, building materials, heat-resistant parts which needs high grain boundary corrosion resistance and some parts which are not easy to heat treatment .
