Under standard ASTM A302M, there are two grade of manganese-molybdenum-nickel alloy steel plates--Grade C and Grade D. The difference between ASTM A302 Grade D & Grade C is the content of Nickel, ASTM A302 Grade D has 0.67-1.03% Nickel for product analysis and 0.7-1.0% Nickel for heat analysis.
In addition to the basic requirements of this specification ASTM A320M, certain supplementary requirements ASTM A302 Grade D are available when additional control, testing, or examination is required to meet end use requirements.
The steel A302 Grade D shall be killed and shall conform to the fine grain size requirement of Specification A20/A20M. If the requirements of this specification ASTM A302 Grade D are in conflict with the requirements of Specification A20/A20M, the requirements of this ASTM A302M specification shall prevail.
