ASTM A302 Grade C steel

ASTM A302 Grade C is a manganese-molybdenum-nickel alloy steel plates intended particularly for welded boilers and other pressure vessels. And ASTM A302 Grade C and Grade D have same mechanical property and similar chemical composition but with different content of Nickel, ASTM A302 Grade C has 0.37-0.73% Nickel for product analysis and 0.4-0.7% Nickel for heat analysis.

A302 Gr. C plates with THK≤50 are normally supplied in the as-rolled condition and may be ordered normalized, normalized and tempered, or stress relieved. A302 Gr. C plates with THK>50mm shall be normalized or normalized and tempered. When normalizing plates ASTM A302 Grade C with THK≥100mm, the cooling rate may be accelerated by air blasting or liquid quenching followed by tempering in the temperature range from 1100 to 1300°F [595 to 705°C] to obtain mechanical properties comparable to those developed by normalizing plates in the lesser thicknesses.
