ASTM A572M “Standard Specification for High-Strength Low-Alloy Columbium-Vanadium Structural Steel” covers five grades of high-strength low-alloy structural steel shapes, plates, sheet piling, and bars. The plates A572Gr.55 in thickness≤40mm, shapes A572Gr.55 with flanges or legs in thickness ≤75mm, the Silicon content is Max. 0.4%; while the plates thickness>40mm, shapes with flanges or legs thickness >75mm, the Silicon content has higher and lower limitation with range 0.15-0.4%.
Commonly the elongation of steel A572Gr.55 is min 17% (in 8 inches or 200mm) and 20% (in 2 inches or 50mm), But for plates A572Gr.55 wider than 24 in.
