ASTM A633 Grade C is characterized by low carbon (less than 0.20%) and low alloy (the total amount of alloy elements <3%). Low carbon content is to meet the requirements of plasticity, toughness, weldability and cold deformation of steel used in engineering structural parts. Mn is the mainly alloying elements, and it is added for improving the mechanical properties. Mn not only has a significant strengthening effect on ASTM A633 Grade C, but also can reduce the cold shortness temperature of ASTM A633 Grade C, increase the quantity of pearlite in ASTM A633 Grade C, and further improve the strength of ASTM A633 Grade C.

The most prominent characteristic of ASTM A633 Grade C is high strength. Generally, under hot rolling or normalizing condition, the strength of ASTM A633 Grade C is 30% ~ 50% higher than the corresponding carbon structure steel. Therefore, ASTM A633 Grade C can bear a very large load. Engineering structures are always very large, the weight of the components themselves often become an important part of the load, the high strength of ASTM A633 Grade C can significantly reduce the self-weight of components and improve bearing its capacity. Not only that, this kind of good effect also greatly improves the compactness of engineering components, thereby improving there reliability, so that you could reduce the consumption of raw materials, costs and resources.
