What are the application scenarios of EN10028-6 P460QL1 steel

EN10028-6 P460QL1 steel plate is a high-performance alloy special steel that falls under the category of European standard pressure vessel steel plates. It has a wide range of application scenarios, as detailed below:
Manufacturing Pressure Equipment
P460QL1 steel plate boasts high yield strength and tensile strength, as well as good elongation and low-temperature impact toughness. These properties make it particularly suitable for manufacturing pressure equipment. For instance, it can be used to fabricate spherical storage tanks larger than 50 cubic meters, single-layer welded containers, multi-layer hot-sleeved welded containers, multi-layer wrapped containers, and other Category II and III pressure vessels, as well as low-temperature pressure vessels.
Petroleum, Chemical, Power Plant, and Boiler Industries
Due to its high strength and excellent low-temperature toughness, P460QL1 steel plate is also widely used in the petroleum, chemical, power plant, and boiler industries. It can be used to make reactors, heat exchangers, separators, oil and gas tanks, liquefied gas tanks, boiler drums, liquefied petroleum gas cylinders, and other equipment and components. These devices and components often operate under high pressure and/or low-temperature conditions, requiring materials with superior mechanical properties and corrosion resistance.
Other Application Scenarios
Apart from the aforementioned applications, P460QL1 steel plate can also be used to manufacture equipment and components such as high-pressure water pipes for hydropower stations and turbine volutes. Additionally, due to its good weldability and machinability, it can meet various complex manufacturing process requirements, such as cutting, bending, and welding.
Specific Usage Precautions
The surface quality of P460QL1 steel plate is strictly controlled, and defects such as cracks, bubbles, scars, folds, and inclusions that are harmful to use are not allowed. The side of the steel plate must not be delaminated. If there are surface defects, cleaning is allowed, but there are strict limits on the cleaning depth and the minimum thickness after cleaning. When welding P460QL1 steel plate, it should be noted that excessive post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) conditions may reduce mechanical properties. Therefore, when specifying technical conditions, it is advisable to refer to the steel mill's recommendations and, if appropriate, consider verifying the mechanical properties of samples that have undergone simulated post-weld heat treatment.
