ASTM A533 Grade B Class1 steel is required to have a high toughness value in order to prevent brittle fracture during pressure vessel pressure test. Generally, after the steel plate is manufactured in a steel factory, ASTM A533 Grade B Class1 steel is assembled into a pressure vessel after being processed and tempered by a manufacturing plant.

The ASTM A533 Grade B Class1 steel plate used in this investigation was provided by Oak Ridge National Laboratory from Heavy Section Steel Technology(HSST) program material. All specimens were fabricated from the longitudinal rolling direction of 12 in (30.48cm) thick plate designated HSST plate.
Dynamic fracture toughness properties of heavy section A533 Grade B class 1 steel plate: the same as the A 508-3 steel.
