ASME SA656 Grade 80 steel

ASTM SA656 “Standard Specification for Hot-Rolled Structural Steel, High-Strength Low-Alloy Plate with Improved Formability” is under the jurisdiction ofASTM Committee A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee A01.02 on Structural Steel for Bridges, Buildings, Rolling Stock and Ships. SA656 Grade 80 is one of grade in standard ASTM SA656. The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units of SA656 Gr.80 are to be regarded as standard. Within the text, the SI units of A656 Gr.80 are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system of A656 Grade 80 are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other.

In addition, SA656 Grade 80 of Specimen Orientation is under the Tension Tests section of Specification A6/A6M. For A656 Gr.80 plates wider than 24 in. [600 mm], the elongation requirement is reduced three percentage points for Grades 80. If the thickness of SA656 Gr. 80 steel is 2 in[50mm], the minimum elongation is 15%; while the thickness of SA656 Gr. 80 steel is 8 in[200mm], the minimum elongation is 12%.
