ASTM SA516 Grade 65 is a carbon steel plates intended primarily for service in welded pressure vessels where improved notch toughness is important. And plates under ASTM SA516 are available in four grades having different strength levels including Grade 55, Grade 60, Grade 65 & Grade 70 etc.
ASTM SA516 Grade 65 has different Carbon chemical content requirements based on different thickness as follows: Plate T≤12.5mm,C≤0.24%; 12.5<T≤50m, C≤0.26; 50<T≤100m, C≤0.28; T>100mm, C≤0.29. And for the Mn & Si chemical content of ASTM A516 Gr. 65 have different chemical requirement for heat analysis and product analysis, as usually the product analysis chemical content of Mn & Si has bigger range than heat analysis chemical content.
Mostly ASTM SA516 Grade 65 is usually instead of GB/T713 Q345R according to chemical content and mechanical property.
