Characteristics of EN10149-2 S355MC Steel
High Strength and Good Toughness: The yield strength is no less than 355 MPa (for thickness ≤16 mm), with a tensile strength range of 430–550 MPa and an elongation exceeding 18%, meeting the requirements of international standards such as ISO 630 and ASTM A572. Its fine-grain strengthening and precipitation strengthening mechanisms are achieved through the addition of trace alloying elements like niobium and titanium, ensuring the material is resistant to fracture under high loads.
Excellent Cold Formability: Designed specifically for complex cold working processes such as deep drawing, bending, and roll forming, the fine ferrite grain structure formed by thermomechanical rolling makes it less prone to cracking during cold bending. For example, components like hydraulic support tubes for construction machinery and equipment conveyance pipelines can be directly formed through cold working, reducing welding steps.
Superior Weldability: It can be welded without complex preheating, with weld strength matching that of the base material. The carbon equivalent is controlled below 0.42, significantly reducing susceptibility to cold cracking during welding. This property makes it widely used in steel structures requiring on-site assembly, such as temporary facilities and movable housing frameworks.
Balanced Corrosion Resistance and Lightweight Design: The low-alloy composition reduces vehicle weight while maintaining strength, and its easily paintable surface for corrosion protection makes it suitable for outdoor applications (e.g., agricultural machinery and refrigerated truck carriage frameworks).
