45 steel belongs to carbon structural steel. No alloying elements are specially added to the 45 steel. 45 steel is also a widely used structural steel.
The application of 45 steel depends on its various properties. 45 steel has a certain degree of toughness and plasticity, and has high strength, good workability, and good comprehensive mechanical properties which can be obtained by quenching and tempering.
45 steel is suitable for manufacturing high-strength moving parts, such as air compressors, pump pistons, steam turbine impellers, rolling shafts, connecting rods, worms, racks, gears, pins, etc. in heavy and general machinery.
45 steel is usually used in quenched and tempered or normalized state. It can replace carburized steel and is used to manufacture parts with wear-resistant surfaces, such as crankshafts, gears, machine tool spindles, piston pins, transmission shafts, etc., and also can be used to manufacture agricultural machinery with medium load shafts, threshing drums, concave plate spikes, sprockets, gears and fitter tools.
