SA516Gr70steel is an American standard container plate for medium and low temperature pressure vessels.SA516Gr70and SA516Gr485carbon steel plates intended primarily for service in welded pressure vessels where improved notch toughness is important.
According to different strength levels, the ASME SA516plates are available in four grades: Grades 55, 60, 65, and 70.
These plates have excellent forming and welding attributes, thus these are readily broken or rolled. SA516Gr70steel plateshave excellent welding properties. The post weld annealing operation is not required on these plates. SA516Gr485 plates possess excellent toughness even in lower temperatures. Without polishing and industrial coats, grade 70 plates are not recommended for critical and severe applications. Resistance to intergranular corrosion is increased after welding operations. Also, these plates are ideal to use in lower temperatures. In the annealed conditions SA516Gr70plates get superior resistance. SA516Gr485 plates can be subjected to intergranular and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments. Moreover, these plates have good stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion resistance at lower temperatures.
