According to reports, POSCO plans to use the metaverse and digital twin technology to build a virtual factory, and it is likely to be used first to test the core process technology POSCO is currently working on - hydrogen-based direct reduction ironmaking Technology.
Posco said that using Metaverse and digital twin technology to build a hydrogen-based direct reduction plant in a virtual space can reduce construction costs. In this way, various scientific experiments can be carried out more easily and conveniently, and even if the simulation results fail, the risk is small, because the whole experiment is carried out in a virtual space.
Posco plans to invest 30 trillion won to 40 trillion won (1241.28 won ≈ 1 USD), and gradually replace all existing blast furnace production processes with hydrogen-based direct reduction ironmaking processes by 2050.
Hydrogen-based direct reduction ironmaking is a breakthrough technology, and its commercial application requires huge R&D investment.
