According to Iranian media reports, Khoddad Gharibpour, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mining and Trade of Iran and Chief Executive of IMIDRO, said recently that the steel production of Iran in the calendar year ending March 20, 2020 (March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020) is expected to reach 28 million tons.
According to the Iranian calendar, in the past two months (August 21 to October 22), Iranian steel exports increased 54% year on year to 561000 tons.
Mubarak steel is Iran's largest steel producer, with exports of 885400 tons in the first seven months, up 23% year on year. Iran's Ministry of industry, mining and trade expects exports to reach 12 million tons throughout the year.
Khoddad Gharibpour believes that despite US sanctions against Iran, Iran's steel industry has not been greatly affected due to its indigenous technology and manpower in mining fields.
In addition, due to US sanctions, Iran's income from oil decreased. To offset this effect, Iran increased investment in metal minerals and steel production.
According to the data released by the World Iron and Steel Association, Iran's crude steel production growth rate in the past three years has exceeded the global average, and in 2018, it ranked the 10th largest steel producer in the world.
