Introduction and application of S355N steel

S355N steel is a European standard low-alloy high-strength structural steel. The "N" in the grade of S355N steel indicates that it has excellent toughness and plasticity.

The chemical composition of S355N steel is similar to that of S355JR steel, mainly including carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and other elements. S355N steel differs from S355JR steel in that S355N has a slightly lower carbon content, with a maximum of 0.20%, and also differs in the content of other elements.

In addition, S355N steel usually needs to undergo controlled rolling, controlled cooling and other processing techniques to obtain better mechanical properties.

S355N steel has good weldability, machinability and corrosion resistance. S355N steel has high yield strength and ultimate strength. At the same time, S355N steel also has good toughness and impact toughness. S355N steel is suitable for high-strength structural parts manufacturing.

S355N steel is often used in bridges, construction, machinery manufacturing, marine engineering and other fields, especially in the manufacture of components used in low temperature environments, such as supports for offshore platforms, oil tanks, liquefied natural gas storage tanks, etc.
