The main technical standards of oil and gas pipeline steel currently used in China are API SPEC 5L, DNV-OS-F101, ISO 3183, and GB/T 9711, etc. The general situation is as follows:
1,API 5L (line pipe specification) is a widely adopted specification formulated by the Main Petroleum Institute. The specification is only for steel pipe products, and does not include the design, selection or installation of pipelines.
2,DNV-OS-F101 (Submarine Pipeline System) is a specification formulated by Det Norske Veritas specifically for submarine pipelines. The content is very extensive, including pipeline design, materials, manufacturing, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and other aspects. The technical requirements for steel pipes alone are usually stricter than API 5L.
3,ISO 3183 is a standard for the delivery conditions of oil and gas transportation steel pipes formulated by the International Organization for Standardization. The standard does not involve pipeline design, installation, etc. The technical terms are more comprehensive and detailed.
4,GB/T 9711 is based on the 45th edition of ISO 3183:2012 and API Spec 5L.Consistent with the two reference standards, two product specification levels are specified: PSL1 and PSL2. PSL1 provides line pipes with standard quality levels; PSL2 adds mandatory requirements including chemical composition, notch toughness, strength performance and supplementary non-destructive testing (NDT).
API 5L and ISO 3183 are internationally influential line pipe specifications. In contrast, most oil companies in the world are accustomed to adopting API 5L specifications as the basic specifications for line pipe procurement.
