Eurasian Economic Union Finalizes Safeguard Measures For Imported Flat Rolled Steel

On June 10, 2019, the Eurasian Economic Union issued its announcement No. 2019/168/SG10 on its official website to finalize safeguards for imports of flat rolled steel products including hot rolled steel, cold rolled steel and coated steel. 1. There is no sharp increase in imports of cold-rolled steel and coated steel. Imports have not caused substantial damage to the relevant industries of the Eurasian Economic Union. Therefore, no safeguard measures are imposed on imported cold-rolled steel and coated steel. 2. It is recommended to import hot-rolled imports. Steel implements safeguard measures with quotas (see the table below for quotas of member states) and imposes a 20% safeguard measure tariff on imported hot-rolled steel that exceeds the quota portion. The validity period is one year.
On August 7, 2018, the Eurasian Economic Union issued the No. 5 announcement, which decided to initiate an investigation on the initiation of safeguard measures for imported flat rolled steel.
