Composition and application of S235J2 steel

S235J2 steel is a low-carbon structural steel, and the chemical composition of S235J2 steel complies with European standard EN 10025-2. Among them, "S" stands for "structural steel", "235" stands for the minimum yield strength of 235 MPa, and "J2" stands for its good toughness, and the minimum impact energy meeting the standard requirements is 27 joules (J).

The specific composition of S235J2 steel is as follows:
Carbon (C) content: no more than 0.20%,
Silicon (Si) content: no more than 0.55%,
Manganese (Mn) content: no more than 1.60%,
Phosphorus (P) content: no more than 0.035%,
Sulfur (S) content: no more than 0.035%,
Copper (Cu) content: no more than 0.55%,
Chromium (Cr) content: no more than 0.30%,
Nickel (Ni) content: no more than 0.30%,
Molybdenum (Mo) content: no more than 0.08%.

In addition, steel S235J2 may also contain trace elements such as aluminum, titanium, niobium, vanadium, etc., and the content of these elements generally does not exceed 0.05%. Overall, the composition of S235J2 steel is designed to balance properties, aiming to provide high strength and toughness while ensuring good weldability and machinability.

S235J2 steel is usually used in building structures, bridges, machinery manufacturing, pipelines and other fields. Due to its good balance of strength and toughness, S235J2 steel has been widely used in various structural engineering.
