Characteristics of DIN 17100 ST44-2 Steel
Mechanical Properties
Yield Strength: ≥275 MPa (for thickness ≤16 mm), decreasing with increasing thickness (e.g., ≥235 MPa for thickness >80 mm).
Tensile Strength: 410–580 MPa (graded by thickness, e.g., 410–540 MPa for thickness 3–16 mm).
Elongation: ≥20% (for thickness 3–16 mm), slightly decreasing with increasing thickness.
Impact Toughness: Impact energy ≥27 J at 20°C (longitudinal specimen), with excellent low-temperature toughness.
Process Performance
Weldability: Its low-carbon design (≤0.21% C) and low phosphorus/sulfur content ensure outstanding weldability, making it suitable for manual arc welding, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and other processes. Recommended welding consumables include E4315/E4316 or ER70S-6.
