Flatness: The surface should be flat, free from noticeable waviness, undulations, or irregularities.
Smoothness: The surface should be smooth and free from defects such as cracks, inclusions, folds, scabs, blisters, and indentations.
Cleanliness: The surface should be clean and free from oil, rust, mill scale, or other impurities.
Manufacturers employ various measures during production and processing to ensure surface quality, such as using advanced rolling equipment and techniques, controlling rolling temperatures and speeds, and performing necessary surface treatments.
A656 Type 3 Gr. 50 Delivery Conditions:
Hot-rolled: The plate is delivered directly after high-temperature rolling. In this condition, the surface may exhibit some mill scale and trace amounts of rust, but these do not affect performance.
Controlled-rolled: The plate undergoes controlled rolling after the initial hot-rolling process to refine its microstructure and properties. This results in superior surface quality and enhanced strength and toughness.
Normalized: The plate undergoes normalizing treatment after hot rolling to eliminate internal residual stresses and microstructural defects. This ensures a more uniform and stable microstructure and performance.
