ASTM A709 HPS100W Steel Plate

ASTM A709 HPS100W complies with the ASTM A709/A709M-2007 standard; it is a high-performance structural steel for bridges, suitable for fracture-critical tension members. Compared to ordinary carbon steel, it offers significantly enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance, making it suitable for steel structures exposed to the atmosphere for extended periods.

ASTM A709 HPS100W Chemical Composition:
Carbon (C) ≤0.08%,
Silicon (Si) ≤0.40%,
Manganese (Mn) 0.95–1.50%,
Phosphorus (P) ≤0.015%,
Sulfur (S) ≤0.006%,
Nickel (Ni) ≤0.3%,
Vanadium (V) 0.01–0.15%

Mechanical properties of ASTM A709 HPS100W steel plate:
Yield strength: 50 ksi (345 MPa).
Tensile strength: 70 ksi (485 MPa).
Elongation: ≥18% (adjusted based on thickness).
Through-thickness properties: Customizable to Z15, Z25, or Z35 grades to meet specific performance requirements in the thickness direction.

ASTM A709 HPS100W Steel – Delivery Condition and Production Process:

Delivery condition: Quenched and Tempered (Q+T). Heat treatment parameters: heating to 870–925°C followed by water quenching; tempering temperature ≥565°C.

Production process: Utilizes electric furnace melting, LF/VD refining, and Thermo-Mechanical Control Processing (TMCP) to ensure grain refinement and property uniformity. Steel ingots undergo slow cooling or combined slow cooling treatments to minimize internal stress.

ASTM A709 HPS100W Steel – Applications:
Primary uses: Bridges (highway, railway, and cross-sea bridges), structural steel for buildings, pressure vessels, heavy machinery, etc. It is particularly suitable for engineering structures requiring high corrosion resistance and weldability.
